QuikTrip works to keep up with Mega Millions, PowerBall ticket demand

TULSA, Okla. — QuikTrip is preparing for a busy week handling two record-breaking lottery jackpots.

Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot is an estimated $1.6 billion and Wednesday’s PowerBall is an estimated $620 million.

QuikTrip says some stores had lines of people pouring out the door when the Mega Millions jackpot climbed into the billions.

When the lines become an issue, the stores bring in extra employees. QuikTrip says the jackpots can hurt sales because customers spend their money only on the lottery tickets as opposed to the store’s products.

QuikTrip says they are only allowed to have one lottery machine behind the counter. Therefore there is nothing the stores can do to speed up the process. Only some stores have self-serve machines.

Both jackpots hit record-breaking highs In October.
